The stars were shining quite brightly, and the moon could have been laughing at the girl jumping off of the tops of buildings that weren't built yet. There were gorgeous wings spawning from her back, and she was using them to glide down safely. For the life of her, she could not get those damn wings to last longer than four minutes and thirty-six seconds. Alice swore quite loudly as her wings shorted out -again- and she crashed the final five feet to the dusty ground. She felt foolish. She hated feeling foolish. And Azar would not shut up about it. You're going to hurt yourself if you keep this up. Azar chirped. Why don't you go home and sleep for once? Your body sure feels like you need it. Alice visibly sighed, then responded. It's been three years, and dammit, I should be flying everywhere by now, not gliding shakily for a few minutes at a time. Now, will you please shut up? Alice rose, rolling her shoulders and cracking her neck. That's why you don't have any friends. You're too mean. Alice could see Azar ruffling her feathers in her mind's eye. She chose not to respond. "Okay, time to climb the damned thing one more time." She muttered to herself, and began walking towards the building's frame. It was three stories high, but fairly wide- there was plenty of room to run along the support beams. It took Alice about ten minutes to climb to the top floor. She was thirty feet off of the ground by the time she reached the top. In a moment, the flaming feathers appeared, and, eyes closed, Alice jumped. She managed to circle around smoothly for almost five whole minutes before they gave. She swore so loudly that the birds surrounding flew off. |
