Name of Purchase:: Exorcism Made Easy
Type of Purchase:: Ability Upgrade
Description::
An upgrade to Tomoko's current power - instead of chanting the whole Amatsu Norito, the Shinto prayer that allows her to exorcise the dead, she now has the ability to banish, repel, and find ghosts without the aid of the chant. It's a large step for any Exorcist, but it's a gradual thing that comes with the territory and the job. Tomoko had been skimping on training, which is why this ability did not manifest itself until she was 18 (instead of 10 like her grandmother, and 13 like her mother). There is a proper Shinto ceremony to celebrate, but until it happens on it's own, naturally, it is unsure when it will appear within an exorcist. And by ceremony, I mean her mother will cook a huge dinner and her grandmother will put out her cigarette on the cake and then proceed to get drunk, and Tomoko's mother will get upset, and then Tomoko will sneak out of the house and go try it and get in a ton of trouble and then get in even more trouble when she gets home.
What this entails is very simple - instead of a long chant, the exorcist simply purifies the soul, the shade, the ghost that is still there. It is different for every ghost, of course, because every one needs to be purified in different ways, but they all have in common that Tomoko must touch the ghost, or stick her hand through it or something similar. The only other thing that is necessary is the want to send the ghost on.
The Amatsu Norito will still work, but it is largely formality at this point. Benign ghosts will still need to be talked to and finish up lost business on earth. This is just a more effective way to deal with malicious spirits and poltergeists (although running up and sticking your hand through a poltergeist doesn't seem like a good idea, but hey. That's just how it works).
