Epimeliad Appearance Faceclaim:: Azusa- Starry Sky Height:: 5'9.5" Weight:: 126 Special Features:: The only significant thing about Apple is that her skin looks a bit greenish. It's very slight, only noticeable if you're looking very carefully. Full Appearance:: Apple is thin and willowy, almost gangly in appearance, with no hips and a flat bust. Her arms and legs are very thin, and her face is round and childish. Although she is technically 56 years of age, she appears as a young woman of about sixteen. Her eyes are a vivid, bright green, and they are very large, giving her an innocent look. Because she has no idea of what is stylish, her hair is cut in a strange pseudo-bob, very short and at her ears. It is a dark, dark black, which is rare among Epimeliads. Her skin is very, very pale, and has a very faint tinge of green to it. Because she can’t feel the cold nor the heat, she will often dress inappropriate to the climate. It is easy to label her a hippie because of her literal tree-hugging, but her style of dress deters most from calling her one. She can often be seen in an eclectic style of dress, usually loud prints in garish designs and colors. She fancies sweaters and leggings with flats usually, but will sometimes be seen in antique-looking dresses. Her idea of cool is tweed and tartan and bright 1960’s pink. Her human form will adapt to the seasons – in summer, she becomes quite tan, and in winter, she looks permanently under the weather. As well, the state of the tree is reflected in her human form, and if the tree is suffering so will she. Of course, this is when she is in human form. When she is inside the tree, she can send out a spirit that is invisible to those who are not connected with the supernatural. It looks like her, but is a green hue and quite see though. She will be mostly naked in this form, clad only in apple leaves placed strategically for aesthetics. In any case, only her arms and shoulders up will be clearly defined as “human” – the rest of her body is vague and formless. When in this appearance, and thus fully in her tree, Apple can not go far from the tree at all, perhaps a foot at the most. Attitude Full Personality:: Apple is not human, although she tries her very hardest. She is not very good at being human, so to speak. There are details to human behavior that she can’t quite get, nor is she very good at picking up on. She has observed humans closely for many years, yet she still has a very rudimentary knowledge of how they act. However, she attacks it with a good-natured cheerfulness, embracing the culture as well as being enchanted by it. She loves humans, and is fascinated by them. Her strange behavior is often dismissed as simple weirdness, but Apple doesn’t understand prejudice as humans see it. She treats every single person (or plant) the exact same way, and is very forgiving. Apple cannot find it in her to harm anything, and her gentle nature is infectious, as well as her smile. She is easily bored, but easily amused. She is very dependant, often clinging to things and refusing to let go. Sometimes literally. Apple likes hugs. She also has no sense of personal space, and gets into people’s bubbles all the time. The dryad doesn’t like subterfuge and rarely lies outright, but she is amazingly good at withholding information (about herself or others) and getting around the truth. She is very emotional – she feels very strongly about things, but she doesn’t do it loudly. She can be a big crybaby, bursting into tears at the slightest provocation, but is quick to smile and laugh, and does so often. In fact, Apple loves smiling as much as dancing, a human thing she picked up on with great abandon. She is quite good at it, despite never getting any training. She wants very much to be like a real human, but she is sorely lacking in social skills. However, she doesn’t recognize that she is lacking in social skills, and will soldier on until someone points out what she’s doing wrong. This is most obvious in her clothing – her idea of “modern” lands solidly in absolutely garish sweaters and dresses several decades out of style. She loves loud patterns in horrible seventies designs, and wears them with utmost confidence. She will often be confused by some clothing and accessories – she once tried to wear a handbag on her head. Most people who see her assume she’s a tin-hat hippie or mentally challenged, but Apple is only a tree-hugger in the literal sense. She’s all for saving the environment and not cutting down trees, but she gets confused by the hypocritical nuances of human nature – to her naïve eyes, if you’re going to save the whales you might as well stop cutting your grass, because that’s killing something too. Apple is a daydreamer and a romantic, and is absolutely in love with the idea of being in love. She wants desperately to be liked, and will go to any lengths to make someone happy, even if it harms herself. She’s also a serial crusher, but she is ignorant of most human dating customs and therefore doesn’t act on these feelings like real humans would. Likes::

Hobbies:: Gardening, photosynthesizing, exploring, meeting humans and learning about them Occupation:: None Notes of Interest:: Apple is an Epimeliad – a type of dryad that is known to be a protector of apple trees. Shapeshifting: Every dryad has the power to shift from plant to human. However, a major drawback is that Apple cannot leave her tree for very long, nor can she go very far. Thankfully, the city is interesting enough that she can explore up to a mile away from her tree in any direction without getting very bored, but outside that she has trouble, as if she is tethered by an invisible rope. Once she leaves the one mile mark, she will begin feeling very sick. If she goes further than one and a quarter miles, she will fall unconscious. If someone tries to take her even further away after that, she will certainly weaken and die. The same thing goes for the time spent out of the tree – the longest she has gone out of her tree is 30 hours, and she was quite ill at the end. If the tree is killed, she will be killed as well, but if she is killed outside of her tree, the tree will live on a few months more before withering. As Apple is still very young, her radius is quite small, but as she grows she will be able to go further and for longer periods of time. Conversation: Being a dryad has many perks, one of them being the ability to talk with plants and animals. Apple can understand the speech of every living thing – she will have conversations with bushes and cats and roses and flowers. It is as natural as breathing to her, and often she won’t understand why others can’t hear what the rosebush is saying, nor will she notice that it tends to make people uncomfortable. Plantomancy: Apple has a very limited control over plants, being a dryad. Currently, all she can do is manipulate her own tree – cause the branches to rustle, drop apples on people’s heads, pull up roots, heal the tree and keep it safe from natural tree enemies, like termites. She can’t affect any plant other than her tree, nor can she control natural forces like floods or fires. She can lessen the damage to her tree to a degree, but truly devastating things like fire she can’t do anything about. History Full History:: One sunny day in the spring of 1956, a young man by the name of Elias Toll bought a small apple orchard. He had been meaning to get out of the city for years, and his family boasted a long line of farmers. What Mr. Toll didn't realize was that the orchard he had just became the owner of was not normal. The first thing he noticed was that only one tree seemed to be doing well. It was enormous for an apple tree, and he inquired after it to the previous owner. Apparently, the tree had sprouted almost overnight and in only one year had grown to almost a story tall. Mr. Toll knew that this tree was special, and he cleared away the other apple trees so that this one would have room to grow. The second thing he noticed was that the apples that came from this tree were very large and incredibly sweet - he had some experience in baking, and the apples he brought into the nearby city of South Isle (then, it was much smaller) sold fast. He knew a good opportunity when he saw it, and he built a small restaurant and courtyard around the tree and began selling all manner of apple goods - pies, jams, preserves, and just plain apples. Business was good, and the restaurant was absorbed as the city grew. This tree was, of course, special because it housed an Epimeliad. It was kept alive through her efforts, and one especially cold winter a young girl knocked on his door asking for a blanket. Astounded that such a young girl would trudge through three feet of snow for a blanket, he gave it to her. She wrapped it around the tree and disappeared. She appeared several times after that, usually regarding the safety of the tree. Mr. Toll was a fairly pragmatic person, and when he got married and eventually and passed the family business to his son, he told him to make sure the tree was taken care of. He knew that the strange girl was connected to the tree, and the tree was important for business. Best to take care of it. Apple, of course, didn't mind that the Toll family was using her apples and built a courtyard around her. She was very flattered, and she had never fit in well with her own kind, so she decided to spend some time with humans. Usually, Epimeliads were born with white hair, but Apple's locks were a deep, dark black. A literal black sheep, Apple had never made friends among the other dryads in the orchard. This was also because she was unafraid of humans - she would talk to them as equals, behavior the other dryads looked down on. Apple looked forward to the talks she had with humans - as she grew and thrived, she marveled at how wonderful they were. She was the last dryad left in that orchard, as the others had left or withered long ago. Apple was glad she could help, but she was still curious about the world around her. As she grew, she began to explore outside the courtyard, going into the city and soaking up everything she could. She watched as the buildings soared into the sky, and she watched as the cars changed and houses were built and styles changed. It fascinated her! Life was so strange! Apple knows little about the state of the supernatural world, nor does she know about Heaven's Gate, but she does notice that there is a real fear in the air - she can feel it in her roots, in her leaves, in the earth.
